Plenary Presentation
4:10 PM - 4:25 PM
Shahana McKenzie has led Bioenergy Australia since 2017, driving the growth of the sector through strategic alliances and policy advocacy. She spearheaded the creation of the Low Carbon Fuels Alliance and the Renewable Gas Alliance, which collectively represent over 450 stakeholder organisations across the biofuel value chain in Australia and New Zealand. She also initiated the Renewable Gas Challenge, aiming to replace 20% of Australia’s domestic gas with renewable sources by 2030.
Under her leadership, Bioenergy Australia’s membership has grown 400%, encompassing leading domestic and global brands. Shahana successfully advocated for Australia’s first Bioenergy Roadmap and the creation of the Jet Zero Council, advancing decarbonisation across hard-to-abate sectors including aviation, shipping, rail, and heavy industry.
She currently sits on key advisory panels, including the Australian Jet Zero Council, ACCC Fuel Consultative Committee, NSW Biofuels Expert Panel, GreenPower Certification Steering Committee, and the Renewable Gas Market Method Development Working Group. Known for building collaborative relationships across government, industry, and communities, Shahana has also founded public campaigns promoting sustainable cities and green spaces, including the Living Cities Alliance and KIDSCAPE.
