Speaker
NAVDEEP SINGH GILL
Phd Student
University Of Tasmania
Chemistry of carbon capture and CO₂ conversion to fuels
1:15 PM - 1:30 PM
Mr Navdeep Singh Gill is pursuing his PhD at the Australian Maritime College (AMC), University of
Tasmania (UTAS), focusing on the decarbonisation of Australian ports. He holds two MBA degrees
from UTAS, reflecting his robust academic foundation. Prior to his academic career, Mr Gill served as
a Class 2 Engineer in the Merchant Navy, gaining extensive maritime experience. His research
investigates strategic approaches, emerging technologies, and policy frameworks necessary for
Australian ports to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Mr Singh actively engages with industry
stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers, contributing significantly to sustainable maritime
operations and environmental responsibility.
Md Abdul Jalil
PhD Researcher
The University Of Adelaide
MoS2-CuBTC Hybrid Nanostructure: A Promising Material for High-Performance Hydrogen Sensing
1:30 PM - 1:45 PM
Md Abdul Jalil is a PhD student at the University of Adelaide's School of Chemical Engineering working on developing 2D materials, and their composites, for sensing applications. He earned his M. Sc in Physics from BUET, Bangladesh. He then studied at CUET, Bangladesh, obtaining his M. Phil. Prior to beginning his PhD, he was a Lecturer in the Department of Physics at CUET. He has expertise in advanced materials synthesis and characterization techniques. His research aims to develop scalable, cost and energy effective sensors for safety monitoring in hydrogen energy sector.
Rachael Matthews
Phd Candidate
The University Of Adelaide
Light-Initiated Degradation of PFAS Using High Redox Potential Photocatalysts
1:45 PM - 2:00 PM
Rachael Matthews is a current PhD candidate at The University of Adelaide working under the supervision of Dr. Cameron Shearer. Rachael obtained a Bachelor of Science in 2022, followed by a First Class Honours in 2023, also at The University of Adelaide. She is a current member of the Photo-Cat Group, who research innovative and sustainable solutions to various environmental issues. Her research specifically focuses on synthesising new inorganic materials for the photocatalytic destruction of per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Ms Ashley King
Process Engineer
BlueScope Steel
Tantalum Corrosion in Steel Pickling
2:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Ashley King completed a Bachelors degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Commerce at the University of Sydney. She now works as a Graduate Process Engineer for BlueScope Steel and has been working on various projects for the Coupled Pickle Cold Mill (CPCM) at the steelworks in Port Kembla.
My Linh Phuong
Phd Candidate
Rmit
Liquid metal alloy catalyst in propanedehydrogenation
2:15 PM - 2:30 PM
My Linh Phuong received her Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) (Honours)degree from RMIT University, Australia in 2023. She graduated with First Class Honoursand was the runner up for the best final year chemical engineering design project (PrattPrize 2024) in Victoria. After graduating, she started her PhD study at RMIT University in2024 focusing on liquid metal catalysts for low emmision applications. The objectives in hercurrent study is to furtheer explore the catalytic activity of liquid metal alloy in propanedehydrogenation and hydrogenation as well as the new design of bimetallic or multimetallicalloy nanoparticales fabrication method.
